Welcome! :-) This spacious & fully furnished apartment next to English Bay is an outstanding subletting deal in this friendly West End neighbourhood in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This apt could be available as early as June 1, 2019.

This CLEAN, comfortable, & cheerful apt is full of natural light & only 1 block from the nearest entrance to English Bay & only 3 blocks from Stanley Park. It's a convenient location for arranging picnics with friends on English Bay Beach, Sunset Beach, Jericho Beach, or Kitsilano Beach, and for renting bicycles to ride around the perimeter of Stanley Park via the lovely seawall. Lots of wildlife, such as seals & sea otters, can be seen shortly before, during, and after sunset. And it was fairly recently that Orca whales were seen very near the local beaches. There are huge blue herons nests near the tennis courts by Stanley Park, and bald eagles can be seen soaring above, almost daily, if you look UP whenever you hear the seagulls & crows making a ruckus. Lost Lagoon, Beaver Lake, Coal Harbour, & the heart of downtown Vancouver are all within easy walking distance.

Your large private bedroom includes a comfy queen bed, large quiet ceiling fan, several book shelves, two bedside tables, matching lamps, & many amenities including many pillows, beautiful sheet sets, a duvet & cover, extra blankets, iron & ironing board. The largest closet in your bedroom is empty with plenty of space for hanging clothes and for storing belongings on shelves above. The smaller closet contains a large variety of emergency supplies, including heaps of bottled water, freeze-dried food, and a small cookstove. Your bedroom also has a glass door entrance to the balcony where you can enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine during an especially gorgeous sunset.

The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need: fridge/freezer, stove/oven, microwave, many dishes, pots & pans, stainless steel wok with glass lid, crock pot, rice cooker, Nutri-bullet food processor for smoothies,etc, french press coffee maker & mugs, wine glasses & bottle opener, all the necessary kitchen utensils such as manual can opener, measuring cups & spoons, baking pans, full spice cabinet, cooking oils, etc. There is also a new fire extinguisher under the kitchen sink.

The bathroom has a full-size tub & shower, several towel sets, radio/CD & i-Pod player, powerful fan, and empty drawers and shelves for your belongings.

This apt's 6th floor balcony comes with a small table if you enjoy eating outdoors, 2 comfy chairs for enjoying the gorgeous variety of sunsets, & several potted flowering plants. From the balcony and huge picture windows from bedroom & living room, you can see English Bay, North Shore mountains, including "The Lions", & vast sky in one direction, and Grouse Mountain and the larger northern mountain range beyond in another direction.

Every July & August, Celebration of Lights fireworks can be viewed from the balcony, living room, & bedroom on 3 special evenings. The outdoor pool, surrounded by a lovely garden, is open during the summer months.

There are reserved parking spots for your visitors with use of your 3-hour parking permit for drop-in guests, as well as street parking. Free parking for your guests is often available for up to one week from the apartment manager if you give her plenty of notice. If you wish to get a regular parking spot of your own in the apt car-park, or in the garage, you can arrange that with the manager for an additional $50 - $100 a month, depending on the spot. But I highly recommend being car-free in this walkable neighbourhood surrounded by fantastic public transportation and many other affordable options.

This apt building is 1/2 block from bus stops for buses 5, 6, & C23. Several restaurants, coffee shops, dry cleaners, bike rentals, hair salons, banks, grocery, convenience, liquor, and drug stores are located within a few blocks from the apt. Countless restaurants of every variety of cuisine are found up and down Denman St, Davie St., & Robson St. As I already said, public transportation is so fantastic in this city that a car is NOT needed and is actually more of a liability than a benefit here. I lived in this apt, car-FREE, for 6 years and there's never been a day when I missed having a car. And there are plenty of car co-ops, taxis, bike rentals, and car rental companies for those who occasionally need those. For those with bikes, there is bike storage in garage or you can keep them on your balcony.

This high-rise apt building has a washer & dryer on EVERY floor so there is no shortage of open machines to find when you need them. A load of laundry washes & dries for about $6. The concrete building is quiet between floors and between apartment walls, and neighbours are thoughtful towards others. The people on this 6th floor are especially quiet & thoughtful.

The total monthly rent for this apt is $1,500 which includes steam heat, hot & cold water, and garbage/ recycling/compost pick-up. If you want cable TV & wireless Internet, you will need to choose & pay for whichever company and package deals you want. The building is completely set up for whatever TV or Internet company you choose. The electric bill with BC Hydro was costing me only around $20 a month when I lived there despite using a hairdryer every day. And it's easy to set up your BC Hydro account to monthly auto-pay. And you will be responsible for choosing and paying for whichever insurance company you wish to buy monthly rental insurance from. Last I heard, it was very reasonable compared to the risks.

The EARLIEST this apt will be available for you to move in is June 1st, 2019. But it's possible it won't be ready for your move-in until June 3rd or 4th IF the current renters have to adjust their move-OUT date to when they can move IN to the new place they'll be sharing with friends. As soon as they move out, the apartment will be thoroughly cleaned, for however many hours are needed, until it sparkles and smells fresh.

As for the MOVE-OUT date for this apartment, I am fairly flexible about that as long as you rent the apartment until at LEAST September 1, 2019, but it's very possible you'll be able to extend your contract for more months than that, or possibly to even take over the apartment completely with your own ongoing rental agreement with the apartment manager if I end up taking a job in another city or province. I am currently subletting a small place in Vancouver from a friend of a friend until at least August 31, 2019 when he finishes his vocational training on Vancouver Island. But it's also possible he'll decide to continue living there in which case I'd be able to continue subletting his place near Commercial Drive. So the end date is really flexible at this time. Please let me know what YOUR optimal end date would be for subletting this apartment and we might be able to work out something that is perfect for both/all of us. This apartment would be perfect for one person, a couple, or even a very small family.

If you do some research on the rental costs of apartments here in this "West End" neighbourhood in Vancouver BC, especially those apts that are spacious, and are within a block or two of English Bay beach with a gorgeous view of the bay and the mountains across the bay, you will have a much clearer understanding of what a good price this sublet is considering the recent 1% vacancy rate in Vancouver and outrageous escalating rents whenever people move out and terminate their agreements. If I were to completely move out of this apt right now, and end my rental agreement, the apt owners of this bldg would immediately raise the rent of this vacant apt by at least several hundred dollars a month for the next renter. This is why I don't want to let go of this apartment until I am sure where I will be working and living long-term. I may find an elementary teaching job that I love right here in Vancouver. Or I may find one in another community that also feels like home to me. Then, and only then,will I be able to move out all of my furniture and say good-bye to the West End. Meanwhile, you have the opportunity to rent a very comfy apt in a beautiful location for a lower than average local price while you get to enjoy this friendly neighbourhood. And you would have first dibs on renting this apt for long-term if, and when, I move out completely, assuming that you have created a good-working relationship with the managers of the building here. :-)

As for viewing the apt, I will need to give the current renters a fair amount of notice whenever I need to show the apartment. They will have lived there for almost 2 years by the time they move out on or near June 1, 2019. So if they're home when I show the apt to you, you'll have opportunity to ask them questions as well.

Like I said, subletting is the most affordable option in this neighbourhood right now because rent controls only apply to current rental agreements that continue from year to year. Once a tenant completely moves out, and the agreement is ended, the owner can jack up the price as high as they wish in between tenant agreements. Subletting is currently the best way to find a lower priced but very nice apt in the West End.
