35 min. transit via frequent, express bus #99 to UBC. EXCELLENT LOCATION, close to downtown yet residential & quiet, near transit, many services & shops. Roommate priority: INTERNATIONAL STUDENT who is COMPUTER PROFICIENT and would like ENGLISH improvement. We can do an exchange. All others welcome too. If you can stay until the spring of '09, that would be great, but shorter stay is also possible. Share 650 sq. ft., apt. with friendly, focussed, respectful, mature students/workers. This is a large, bright, modest, 3rd fl. apt. in an older building with large windows, wood floors & a balcony with sunsets & partial view of the mountains. Compact, semi-private space is available. Our lifestyle & apartment arrangment is a unique, community/ibrary combination. Laundry room is in the basement. The apt. is furnished in a simple, efficient, aesthetic design. The sleep/study area is small, comfortable & dorm-style. Choose between 80 sq. ft. ($350, loft bed), or 100 sq. ft. ($450). Space has a bed, desk, closet, bookcase, dresser, lamps, computer (XP), high speed internet, with shared phone & cable TV. There is also a smaller space for $250. The Ikea closet accomodates a basic set of clothing. We are dedicated, graduate students so this is a calm atmosphere. We share the whole apt. I'm a Canadian, recent, graduate student in Education and Ecology, used to teach ESL & like the arts. Usually we have an international group of 3-4 people & the home language is English. This makes it fun as we learn about varying cultures & habits. We share groceries. Each of us cooks once a week for the 3-4 of us, simple, nutritious recipes being okay. This means that 6 nights a week you would come home to a cooked meal that you just heat up. We buy from the list of foods we each provide to the shopper. We eat well by pooling our money. You will save time, energy & money with this arrangement. If you don't use this food pooling, you would be reimbursed. Omnivores, vegetarians & vegans welcome. We eat whenever we can due to busy schedules but enjoy sharing meals when schedules jive. We're a one-minute walk to frequent bus #3. We're very close to several main arteries: Main St., Broadway & the Main/Science World skytrain station. It's 20-30 minutes transit to downtown. We socialize outside home only, to respect study schedules. There are many inexpensive, ethnic, eating places and coffee shops a few minutes walk away where we can meet friends. If you would like to do some computer tutoring (general literacy, Microsoft Office + ?), gardening, baking or housework, we can do an exchange and/or reduce the rent somewhat. NO SMOKING ANYWHERE, inside or outside, no drinking, no drugs, 100% respectful language. Sorry, no couples, children or pets. Please send your questions. We look forward to hearing from you, Daisy.
